Short Film: "It's a Bright Future!"
Created with Curtin University in conjunction with the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection and Revelations film festival, this short film is a response to the Buy My Duck brief. The film stars Billy, a starry eyed young university graduate who is thrilled to be a member of the new economy- however these days things aren't as simple as back in the 50's. Watch it to see what happens to Billy!
The background footage is edited from old 50s PSA films found on archive.org and the characters are mixed media & digitally retouched illustrations printed onto paper, originally created from photos. I stuck them on a stick and keyed out the background with possibly the dodgiest bluescreen setup ever (at one point I was taping plastic bags to lights and using empty beer bottles to get the desired colour).
Anyway I had a lot of fun with this, as you can tell from the video- what potentially was a dull brief worked out well! Cheers to Fboy for the soundtrack, Brett for narrating it, Jen for playing Phyllis and Dave for the camera. Yes, I'm Billy, and no, you can't see the original photos of me in those clothes.
